We have pretty much the same Dell models in our environment as you have in yours. Also waiting for DW drivers, the last ones didn’t even work properly in Win7 and now in Win8 Dell latitude e6420 mass storage controller device disappears every now and then only to reappear after a while, and then disappears again, etc. Check if the touchpad driver is installed by looking at Device Manager shown below.
